Tuesday’s Trailer Topic: Episode 1 (July 23, 2024)

In the first episode of NCU’s Tuesday’s Trailer Topic, we will be discussing something we found in regard to truck driver health. We are sharing what we came across, on episode No. 724 of What the Truck?!?, as they hosted their first-ever truck driver health forum. In that podcast they provided some flooring statistics about truck driver health.

Truck drivers have:

  • A life expectancy that is 16 years less than the average population
  • The highest rates of obesity and diabetes among all U.S. occupations
  • 2 times higher rates of hypertension compared to the average U.S. worker

The host of the podcast What the Truck?!?, not only wanted to improve his own health but he wanted to share what he had learned with others in the field. He came across the company Offshift which was designed for trucker driver’s and improving their overall health.

“Offshift was built to help truck drivers prevent chronic diseases, such as diabetes or heart disease, anywhere they drive. From helping them find a primary care doctor out on the road to showing them how to exercise in the back of their truck to suggesting the healthiest options at any fast-food restaurant, Offshift was built for your fleet.” – CEO of Offshift, Dr. Mark Manera.

The host of the podcast, What the Truck?!?, teamed up with Offshift to create more awareness for truck driver health. They were inspired and devised the idea of Truckers Squat Across America. They are encouraging truck drivers across the United States to do 10 squats a day and send in their videos showing that they have done it. Over half of the states across the U.S. have joined the movement. From squatting in the freezing cold to squatting with a duck, drivers are indeed squatting across America.

What a great way to promote healthy living!

Let’s all be mindful that it only takes one small step, or in this case 10 squats, toward a healthier lifestyle. Encourage those around you to be healthy!

Will you join the movement?

Not a trucker? Fear not. These goals also work for sedentary freight brokers and podcasters as well. Featuring Dr. Mark Manera, Michael Lombard; Rob Carpenter; and Dr. Todd Simo.
