Trailer Topic Tuesday: Episode 17
She put off a trucking career for 7 years. Now, she is Pilot’s Road Warrior.
A woman with the name Liz Leon used to work for Toys R Us in their warehouse. Every year, for those who wanted to participate, they would train a few employees to get their CDL (commercial driver’s license). For 6 years she couldn’t get herself to do the training, but on year 7, she changed her mind and took the opportunity to do the CDL training. Which happened to be the best decision she could have made because it led her to where she has been ever since.
Now, 19 years later she is being honored this year as Pilot Flying J’s 2024 Road Warrior. Which is an award recognizing her dedication to the trucking industry. She was given a $25,000 dollar prize. She now works for 4Gen Logistics and covers around 100,000 miles a year!
The vice president of transportation and logistics for Pilot, Jordan Spradling, said her nomination stood out amongst the rest. Leon hopes other women take the leap into the career of trucking and wishes she had started when the opportunity first arose.
Only 12% of CDL holders are women, according to Women in Trucking Association.
