Tuesday’s Trailer Topic: Episode 6
Introducing children to trucking?!
On this episode of Trailer Topic Tuesday, we found an interesting podcast topic.
On “Great Quarter, Gals” – a YouTube channel hosted by Freight Waves, producers Kaylee Nix (Senior Freightcaster) and Grace Sharkey (Staff Writer & Sirius XM Host) talk to industry veterans, Debbie Sparks, executive director of NMFTA, and Linda Hagopian, to discuss their book series introducing children to the wonderful world of trucking.
Debbie & Linda partnered up to create a children’s books series about trucking. They wanted to paint truck driving in a light that people normally don’t – eliminating stereotype’s that are currently surrounding the occupation. With there being a growing need for more truck drivers, they thought what a good way to show the positive side of truck driving, especially to a young audience – the world’s next generation of drivers.
Trucks are vital to our very existence – transporting goods in a timely fashion across the nation. Without them we would lack resources, commodities, job opportunities, etc. This book series highlights future opportunities, in a remarkably creative way, providing youngsters information in regard to a job that’s not normally sought after or even presented to children. Trucking driving doesn’t necessarily have a glamourous reputation but none-the-less, it is essential to our day-to-day life – so why not put a positive spin on it and attract talent at an early age.
